O’Sullivan safely through to Champion of Champions semi-finals

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN stands just two wins away from winning his third Champion of Champions title in four years after cruising his way to the semi-finals.

The Rocket, who has not lost a match in this tournament since its launch in 2013 having missed the event last year, beat Martin Gould 6-2 to reach the last four stage in the invitational competition taking place at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena.

Earlier in the day O’Sullivan beat Robin Hull to reach the group final. Gould beat Mark Davis 4-3.

The week-long tournament features 16 champions from a number of World Snooker’s biggest events over the past twelve months.

In the semi-finals O’Sullivan will face the winner of Group 2 which features world champion Mark Selby, Liang Wenbo, Joe Perry and Mark Allen.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) sees defending champion Neil Robertson in action taking on recent China Championship finalist Stuart Bingham.

The other group match sees 2016 World Championship finalist Ding Junhui face Ali Carter.
