April 21, 1997 is a day in the snooker world which will be remembered for a very long time.
It was the day when Ronnie O’Sullivan produced one of the most memorable and stunning achievements the game has ever seen.
Playing in the World Championship against Mick Price, O’Sullivan made a 147 maximum break in just five minutes and 20 seconds.
Nobody has made a 147 professionally in quicker time.
O’Sullivan won £147,000 in prize money for the maximum, averaging 8.8 seconds per shot.
Despite losing in the second round that year, O’Sullivan went on to win his first world title in 2001. He has won it a further four times since.
