Ronnie O’Sullivan named as ‘BBC Sports Personality of the Year Contender’

Ronnie O’Sullivan has been shortlisted to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Contest for the first time.

The Rocket will go head to head against some of the leading names in British sport for the accolade next month after winning his sixth World Championship title in August.

Others picked so far include Stuart Broad, Lewis Hamilton, Jordan Henderson and Hollie Doyle.

The BBC have written: “Won his sixth world title at the Crucible to become the oldest champion for more than 40 years and cement his place as one of snooker’s greatest players.

“‘The Rocket’ has secured more events (37) and Triple Crown event titles (20) than any other player in history. The Essex potter is nominated for the BBC award for the first time in his 25-year career.”
