Legendary snooker star Jimmy White says world number one Judd Trump is the best potter the sport has ever seen.

Six-times World Championship finalist White gave his views just minutes after Trump claimed his third Northern Ireland Open title in as many years after a 9-7 win over world number 2 Ronnie O’Sullivan.

The victory continued Trump’s dominance in World Snooker and moved him to 19 career ranking titles pushing him ahead of his close rivals Mark Selby and Neil Robertson who are on 18 each.

White, known to millions for being a flamboyant potter himself during his peak years on the professional circuit, was full of praise for snooker’s new king.

Speaking as a pundit for Eurosport White said: “He is a phenomenal player.

“He won this tournament two years ago, since then he’s won 10 ranking titles which has set him on this route to being number one in the world.

“Sometimes when you’re playing Judd Trump and he’s potting balls there’s no where to play safe. There was a couple of frames where Ronnie left him and you thinking it is safe but then all of a sudden and two shots later he is banging the balls open.

“I know Ronnie O’Sullivan creates lots of chances but Judd Trump’s potting is absolutely phenomenal next to none – like we’ve never seen before.”
