After a year of frustration, Judd Trump is smiling once again.
And he has every right to do so.
Trump put an end to more than 13 months without silverware to his name tonight after victory over Ronnie O’Sullivan saw him crowned Northern Ireland Open champion.
The 9-7 win saw Trump lift his ninth major ranking event and take home the jackpot cheque for £70,000.
And nobody can argue that it wasn’t fully deserved. Trump has been back to his fluent best this week, playing his self-style brand of attacking snooker which has delighted the Belfast crowd.

A year ago in this competition, Trump smashed the balls up with his cue in frustration after being knocked out in the early rounds.
However, now twelve months on and he is celebrating a wonderful victory – a win which could open the door for even more success in the remainder of the season.
At one stage O’Sullivan appeared to take control of the final when he led 7-6. But Trump kept composed and stuck to the task in hand to complete a great comeback to take home the trophy.
It is Trump’s first title since winning the European Masters in October 2017.
During that time he has crashed out of several ranking events early doors and been left frustrated with his game as his confidence has ebbed away.
But now he is back. And he will want to do it all over again when the UK Championship starts at the end of this month.
An exciting and successful Judd Trump is back on the snooker scene.
