Dennis Taylor has paid tribute to the life of Chas and Dave singer singer Chas Hodges – a well known music legend who created the Snooker Loopy song which is loved by so many fans of the game.

The 1985 world champion took to Twitter to pay his respect to Chas whose death was announced on Saturday.

Music duo Chas and Dave released Snooker Loopy in the mid 1980s – during a golden period when snooker hit the big time and grew in popularity.

The tongue-in-cheek song still proves to be very popular to this day and makes fun of snooker legends such as Steve Davis, Willie Thorne and Taylor himself – with a lyric reference to his famous snooker glasses looking like swimming goggles. The stars also filmed the video to the song with Chas and Dave.

It reached a high of number 6 in the UK Singles Chart.

The popular music legend singer died in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning from organ failure, a tweet stated from the musical duo’s official Twitter account said. He died aged 74.

Taylor tweeted: “So sad to hear about the passing of Chas Hodges. We had so much fun making Snooker Loopy with the boys.

“Chas & Dave real Legends. Thoughts are with his family.”

Ex snooker player Willie Thorne tweeted: “Very sad to hear of the passing of Chas Hodges from Chas & Dave Snooker Loopy. RIP.”
