Barry Hawkins to face Ronnie O’Sullivan in £200k Shanghai Masters final

Barry Hawkins produced a brilliant comeback display to set up a Shanghai Masters final showdown against Ronnie O’Sullivan.

This year’s beaten World Championship semi-finalist came back from behind to beat Ding Junhui 10-9 to secure a place in Sunday’s grand final.

Ronnie O’Sullivan, who won this tournament last year, booked his place in the final on Friday after beating Kyren Wilson 10-6 and stands one win away from defending his title.

Sunday’s finale will see the winner (first to eleven frames) receive a cheque for £200,000 – the joint biggest pay cheque for an invitational event in the history of snooker.

The match will be a repeat of the 2013 World Championship final and the 2016 Masters final which O’Sullivan both won in comfortable fashion.

However, Hawkins’ one of only two victories against O’Sullivan came in the World Championship two years ago when he beat him in the last 16 stage 13-12. Check out the below video.

Hawkins could not have asked for a more thrilling way to reach the final after coming back from 9-7 behind to beat home favourite Ding Juhui.

After the impressive win, Hawkins said: “It would be amazing to win the tournament and lift the trophy. I know what I have got to do against Ronnie.

“You have to take chances and cut out silly mistakes. I’ve beat him before over a long distance. Although he has bashed me up most of the time.

“I just have to go out there and enjoy it. I’ve got nothing to lose.”
