The former world champion was in good form as he returned with a solid 6-2 win against the snooker legend in the China Open qualifiers.
Bingham had been out of the game since October when he was given a six month ban for betting on matches – three months of the ban were suspended.
But it was an impressive return for the world number 12 who made breaks of 81, 79, 96, 104, 52 and 60 against the six-times World Championship finalist.
Meanwhile, there were also wins for Neil Robertson, Mark Williams, Luca Brecel and Yan Bingtao who booked their place in April’s China Open.
On Saturday, Judd Trump failed to qualify after he suffered a shock 6-5 defeat to world number 85 Jak Jones.
