Fu has struggled for form recently failing to reach the quarter-finals of any of the ranking event’s he played in the 2017/2018 campaign.

But Fu will hope that bad run comes to an end in Glasgow this week. He next faces China’s Zhou Yuelong in a bid to reach the Last 16 stage.

Meanwhile, Ronnie O’Sullivan made it nine wins in a row after the recent UK Championship winner beat Robert Milkins 4-1 to easily book his place in the third round. O’Sullivan remains odds-on to win the title and collect what would be his fourth ranking event of the season.

There was joy for John Higgins who beat Christopher Keogan 4-1 and Scotland’s very own Stephen Maguire continued his impressive form of late with a 4-2 victory over Hamza Akbar.

Daniel Wells made breaks of 67, 103, 52 and 63 to end Jimmy White’s hopes of Scottish Open glory.

One surprising exit came when Ali Carter suffered a final frame loss to Yorkshire potter Ashley Hugill.

And Monday’s 147 star Cao Yupeng kept up his winning ways, coming back from 3-2 down to beat Allan Taylor in a final frame decider.
