Jack Lisowski reaches first major ranking semi-final in Shanghai

Jack Lisowski enjoyed one of his best days in his professional snooker career so far as he secured a place in the semi-finals of a major ranking event for the first time.

The cueman is now showing signs that he is finally delivering the talent for which he has always had since a young age.

The 26-year-old now stands just two wins away from winning his first ranking tournament after a superb day in the Shanghai Masters which saw him beat Mark Allen and Kurt Maflin to make it into the last four.

Liswoski is enjoying his best ever season as a snooker professional. Despite a couple of quiet years, Lisowski has this season made the quarter-finals of the English Open as well as reach the Last 16 of the European Masters and the Riga Open..

In money terms he has already significantly beat his best season in prize money won and there is still another six months to go in this camapign.

However it looked like Lisowski was going to have a day to forget when Allen made two century breaks to gain a 3-1 lead over him in the Last 16 tie earlier today.

But despite Allen hitting his third century to go 4-2 up – Lisowski produced a brilliant fightback to win 5-4. He then was in dominant form to beat Norway’s Kurt Maflin in the quarter-finals 5-3.

Next up is a clash against close friend Judd Trump who Lisowski beat in the Last 16 stage of the English Open just a month ago.

But it will be a tough match for Lisowski as Trump has not lost a single frame in the tournament and goes into the semi-finals having won an incredible 20 frames on the bounce this week.

After his quarter-final win Lisowski said: “I have been working a lot harder this season and it is paying off.

“I have shown signs of form, this is the most consistent I have ever been. To be in my first semi-final is a great feeling.

“It will be extra special playing Judd, although we don’t like playing each other. He hasn’t lost a frame yet so hopefully I can win at least one.”

Trump got the perfect revenge on Belgian’s Luca Brecel on Thursday when he thrashed him 5-0 – just a week after Brecel whitewashed him in the Champion of Champions event in Coventry.

Trump said it was nice to see Lisowski delivering his A game on the baize.

“To win four games 5-0 is a great achievement,” he said. “It’s good to see Jack doing well, it’s long overdue to see him getting to the latter stages often.

“He was one of the best players when we were growing up so it’s great to see him where he belongs.”
