FLASHBACK: Liang Wenbo jumps and roars with delight after clinching English Open title

It was a moment Liang Wenbo will never forget.

This video shows when China’s talented star clinched his first major ranking title of his career twelve months ago when he beat Judd Trump to win the English Open.

In what was one of the most memorable moments of the 2016/17 snooker season, Wenbo roared and jumped with huge delight after sinking in the final few pots to ensure a 9-6 victory and major silverware to his name.

When sinking in the final pink, Wenbo jumped several times shouting ‘Yes’ before shaking hands with Trump. Prior to the tournament, Wenbo suffered heartbreak losing as finalist in two major ranking finals in the Shanghai Masters in 2009 and the 2015 UK Championship.

But it was a case of third time lucky for Wenbo in Manchester last year.

Victory helped Wenbo establish himself into the world’s top 16 and he has been there ever since going onto to win the Snooker World Cup with close friend Ding Junhui.

The Chinese number two star, now ranked 14 in the world, will be hoping to defend his title this week when the 2017 event starts, this time in Barnsley, on Monday. He begins his defence against Welshman Duane Jones.
