Trump, who won the UK title four years ago when he burst onto the limelight, sealed his place in the next round after a 6-1 victory over Hammad Miah,
And Murphy, who reached the final of the World Championship earlier this year, compiled seven breaks of 50 or more in a 6-1 win over Ashley Hugill.
The biggest casualty of the second day was Welshman Matthew Stevens who fell to an agonising 6-5 defeat to Chris Wakelin.
In a see-saw contest throughout, Stevens lost on the final black after his attempted double missed the target.
Another enthralling match saw Jamie Cope come back from 4-1 down to beat Rory McLeod in a final frame decider.
