RONNIE O’Sullivan stands just five frames away from winning his fifth UK Championship title after dominating the opening proceedings in today’s final.

The Rocket has enjoyed the better of what ha been a somewhat of a cagey and a scrappy final which currently sees O’Sullivan lead Judd Trump 5-3.

But Trump will go into the start of tonight’s final session in much better spirits after winning the final two frames to reduce his arrears from 5-1 to 5-3 at the halfway stage.

O’Sullivan, who beat Stuart Bingham in a final frame decider to reach the final, came back from 30 points adrift to win the opening frame before a 50 break from Trump levelled matters at 1-1.

But it was one-way traffic in the next four frames as a break of 82 regained O’Sullivan’s lead which then moved to 3-1 when the Rocket made a frame-winning break of 41 after Trump fouled on the pink.

O’Sullivan then went three frames clear after the mid-session interval as a gorgeous long red into the green pocket led to a break of 41.

Drama was to come in frame six when Trump, looking to reduce his deficit, wasted a golden opportunity to make it 4-2 when he missed a simple red into the middle after working so hard to get into a winning position. The miss proved costly as O’Sullivan cleared to make it 5-1.

Trump, however, managed to put the disappointment of the last frame behind him when he reduced his deficit to 5-2 by dominating frame seven.

And Trump, despite not at all playing his fluent best, managed to close the gap to just two frames when he took full advantage of a poor safety from his opponent on the final green.

Play resumes at 7pm and you can follow our live feed on the action right here.
