JUDD Trump set up a mouth-watering quarter-final tie against world number one Neil Robertson after seeing off the challenge of Ryan Day.
Trump, bidding for his first world title, only needed half of tonight’s evening session to seal his place in the last eight, beating the Welshman 13-7.
It is the third time in four years Trump has made the last eight stage of the competition following his run to the final in 2011 and the semi-finals last year.
His quarter-final tie with Robertson looks set to be a cracker with both attacking players and major contenders for the title.
Robertson had earlier blitzed his way into the quarter-finals after beating Mark Allen.
And former world champion Shaun Murphy also booked his place in the last eight beating Marco Fu 13-8. Murphy, winner of the World Open last month, will meet defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in a battle to reach the semi-finals.
O’Sullivan is just three wins away from winning the World Championship for a third year running and claiming a sixth career world title.
The pair’s quarter-final clash will be the first time the players have met in a major competition in three years – the last time being in the 2011 World Championship when O’Sullivan was a 13-10 winner in the second round.
