MARTIN Gould’s hot streak of form continued as he cruised into the final qualifying round in this year’s World Championship.

Gould hit breaks of 134 and 94 in a 10-1 thrashing against Brazilian Igor Figueiredo – his second win by that scoreline in the qualifying event following his 10-1 win over Mitchell Travis in the previous round.

The emphatic victory means Gould is just one win away from reaching the Crucible next week. But standing in his way will be China’s Liang Wenbo, a player enjoying an impressive and more consistent season on tour after winning his first career title – the third Asian Tour Event back in October.

Day six of the World Championship Qualifiers saw five players go through after completing three successive wins from the first round.

Finland’s Robin Hull was one of then names who defeated Ian Burns 10-4 after coming back from 3-0 down.

Hull, who once quit the sport for good because of a life-threatening virus, could make his first appearance at the World Championships since 2002 should he beat Peter Ebdon on Monday.

One of Wednesday’s final qualifiers will see a battle of Gloucester take place after Michael Wasley set up a meeting with Robert Milkins following a 10-6 win over Mark Joyce. The win added to Wasley’s previous victories over Sydney Wilson and Rory McLeod.

China’s Li Yan came back from behind to defeat Joe Swail 10-8 and Robbie Williams fought back from 7-4 down to beat Indian star Pankaj Advani.

And Stuart Carrington continued his impressive run with a 10-5 win over Nigel Bond. Carrington, who previously beat Andrew Norman and Jack Lisowski, will make his Crucible debut should he beat Ryan Day on Wednesday.

Matthew Selt, who made his Crucible debut last year, comfortably reached the final round with a 10-2 win over Thepachaiya Un-Nooh and Jamie Burnett came out on top in a closely-fought contest against Cao Yupeng – winning 10-8.

Player of the Day – Martin Gould: To win both of his matches so convincingly takes some doing especially in the longer format. Having won 20 out of 22 frames, Gould will go into his crucial match against Wenbo with plenty of confidence.
