A MATCH-WINNING break of 78 in a final frame decider proved decisive as Marco Fu defeat Judd Trump in the opening round of The Masters.

In a topsy-turvey encounter which lasted more than four and a half hours, the Hong Kong star held his nerve in the final moments to clinch a place in the quarter finals with a hard-fought 6-5 win.

The defeat is another setback for Trump who has struggled for good tournament runs throughout the season – only making one PTC final to note.

But it is upwards onwards for Fu whose impressive season continues after winning the Australian Open and reaching the final of the International Championship at the back end of last year.

Fu will face either Ding Junhui or Shaun Murphy in the next round.
