DING Junhui has a single frame lead over Marco Fu going into the final part of the International Championship final after an enthralling first session in Chengdu.
China’s number one star, who is looking to claim his third consecutive major title, leads 5-4 at the halfway stage after producing some mesmerising snooker on the big stage.
Ding compiled four high-quality century breaks as well as a break of 92 as he turned around an early 3-1 deficit against the Hong Kong star.
Fu won the a tight opening frame by potting the final pink before a stunning break of 121 doubled his lead to 2-0.
Ding then hit back with a century of his own, a 108, to get off the mark before Fu had the better of the fourth frame to restore his two-frame advantage.
But after the mid-session interval, there was nothing Fu could do as Ding showed why he is currently one of the world’s best with three century breaks in a row. Breaks of 92, 138, 127 and 126 helped him go from behind to in charge at 5-3.
Fu managed to halt Ding extending his lead further in the session’s final frame with significant runs of 36 and 39 which closed the gap to 5-4.
Play will resume at 11.30am (UK time).
