TOP-LEVEL snooker could make a return to Bournemouth after more than decade away from the town it has been reported.
World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn has the famous seaside resort well within his sights to host one of the sport’s big competitions next year.
Bournemouth last hosted a major snooker event between 2000 and 2002 when the UK Championship was held at the Bournemouth International Centre.
But Hearn told the Bournemouth Daily Echo he was considering one of the sport’s newest competitions – The World Snooker Shoot-Out to be staged in the town.
“I think there is a good chance we could come back to Bournemouth,” he said.
“We are looking at something really quite big for next year and I think it will go down really well. I am thinking of something like the World Snooker Shoot-Out, the one-frame tournament.
“It is a bit more lively than just a normal snooker event because it is only a one-frame match and Bournemouth might be a really good venue for it.”
This year’s World Snooker Shoot-Out competition was held last month in Blackpool.
